Cabinet & Trim Painting

Kitchen cabinets, built-ins, doors and moldings, finished for daily handling.

Cabinets and trim get touched, bumped and cleaned more than any wall in the house, so the finish has to be tougher and the prep more careful. Grease, old varnish and glossy factory finishes all need to be dealt with before paint will bond.

We look at how your cabinets are built and what is on them now, then explain the preparation, primer and finish, and how long the kitchen will be out of use while the finish cures.

What is included

  • Kitchen and bathroom cabinet boxes, doors and drawer fronts
  • Built-ins, bookcases and mantels
  • Interior doors and frames
  • Baseboards, crown molding, chair rail and window trim
  • Degreasing, sanding and bonding primer as specified
  • Hardware removal and reinstallation as agreed

Before we start

Cabinet construction, the existing finish, hardware and any damage all affect the scope. Solid wood, veneer, MDF and laminate each need a different approach, and some surfaces are not good candidates for paint. We check before recommending the work.

A good fit for

  • Updating dated wood cabinets without replacing them
  • Refreshing yellowed or chipped trim
  • Painting stained doors and moldings
  • Matching built-ins to a new color scheme

Questions about cabinet and trim painting

If your question is not here, call (718) 984-0719.

Can every cabinet be painted?

No. Existing coatings, laminate, damage or contamination can make a surface a poor candidate. We check paintability first and tell you plainly if a surface is not worth painting.

How long will my kitchen be out of use?

It depends on the number of doors, the products and drying conditions. The schedule, including cure time before normal use, is discussed before work begins.

Will the painted cabinets hold up?

Durability comes from cleaning, sanding, the right primer and a finish made for cabinets. Your scope names the products and prep steps planned for your surfaces.
