Surface Preparation
Patching, taping, plaster repair and priming: the work under a good finish.
Paint shows what is underneath it. Cracks, dents, loose tape seams and patchy old repairs all telegraph through a fresh coat, especially in low sun or under strong lighting. Preparation is where a professional finish is won or lost.
We treat prep as its own line in the scope, so you can see exactly which repairs, sanding and priming are included instead of guessing what "prep" means on an estimate.
What is included
- Patching holes, dents and cracks in drywall and plaster
- Taping and finishing loose or cracked seams
- Plaster repair on older walls and ceilings
- Skim coating where surfaces are rough or uneven, as scoped
- Sanding, caulking and spot priming
- Primer selection for new drywall, repairs and stains
Before we start
Walk us through cracks, stains, peeling areas and any past water damage. Painting will not fix active leaks, structural movement or moisture coming through a wall. Those need to be solved first so the repair and the finish last.
A good fit for
- Older homes with cracked plaster
- Walls with years of patches and nail holes
- Ceilings after a leak has been repaired
- Getting new drywall ready for paint
Questions about surface preparation
If your question is not here, call (718) 984-0719.
Is wall repair included in every estimate?
The amount of preparation varies from job to job. Your written scope should list which repairs, sanding and priming are included, so there is no confusion later.
Can you cover water stains?
Yes, once the source is fixed and the area is dry. Water stains need a stain-blocking primer before the finish coat or they will bleed back through.
Do you repair plaster or only drywall?
Both. Plaster and drywall repairs use different materials, and older plaster walls often need extra attention at cracks and loose areas.
