Decide what you want to keep
If you want to preserve a stained finish or an existing color on part of the house, identify it during the walkthrough. The crew needs to know what gets painted and what gets protected. Include door hardware, fixtures and adjacent brick or stone in that discussion.
Give trim its own scope
Window frames, baseboards, door casings and stair components involve edges, corners and drying time. Count them separately from walls. Ask which preparation, primer and finish the estimate includes, particularly when changing a dark color or covering a glossy coating.
Make the access plan before work starts
For exterior work, show us fences, planting beds and narrow areas around the house. For interiors, discuss stair access and where furnishings can move. A clear plan protects the property and helps avoid interruptions once preparation begins.
Price the complete Tottenville project
You can request walls only, a trim repaint or an interior and exterior scope together. The estimate should still name each part. Bring photographs and a surface list when you call; we review the actual conditions before pricing. Over 20 years of professional painting experience goes into that preparation and planning.
Check what a painting estimate should include before comparing proposals.
Tottenville painting questions
Can some woodwork stay stained while other surfaces are painted?
Yes. Identify the finishes you want to preserve during the walkthrough so protection and scope are clear.
Should trim and walls use the same finish?
They do not have to. We discuss the use of each surface and name the selected products and sheens in the estimate.
