Settle the scope before the start
Choose rooms, colors, sheens and surfaces before the crew arrives. A last-minute change can affect materials and sequencing. If you are still deciding, say so during the estimate and agree on when those choices need to be final.
Make a place for furniture and supplies
Decide who moves large furniture and where small items will go. Clear breakables and personal belongings from the work area. The crew also needs a safe place for tools and supplies. Discuss floor and fixture protection before preparation starts, especially along the routes people still use.
Keep one practical access plan
Tell the contractor which entrance to use, where vehicles may park and how alarms or building entry work. For an occupied home, agree on the rooms you need each evening. For a business, name the active areas and permitted hours. Repeated interruptions are easier to prevent than to recover from.
Allow the finish to dry and cure
Fast work still needs the drying conditions the product calls for. Dry to the touch and ready for cleaning are different stages. Ask when you can move furniture back, hang pictures and wash the surface. The answer depends on the product and conditions at your property.
Close the job with a walkthrough
Review the finished surfaces together while the scope is at hand. Point out anything that needs attention and agree on how it will be addressed. Keep the product and color information for later touch-ups. A clean job ends with an orderly handover, not just the last coat.
